The decision about the issue of euthanasia is not easy as the other issues such as gays, smacking and abortion. To summarise, the projects in which the patients or the elder’s pain can be minimised during having a time with family or friends are organised and the environments which is preferred natural death to euthanasia are provided by the government. These ways can reduce the requesting of euthanasia. Nevertheless, the euthanasia should basically be allowed to the patients or the elders who is suffering from the painful disease by their own requesting, because the situation that family members or doctors are prosecuted as the murderer to help their suffering people must be avoided.
Now what is your decision?

I enjoyed your piece. It looks like you have done some good research with all the surveys you have found and linked into your blog.
ReplyDeleteYou have also blogged each side of the argument for euthanasia clearly.
Well Done.

ReplyDeleteWhy didn't you give your opinion about legalistion of euthanais in NZ??
I love your posts, Katie, like Tony said you did a good research on it and you even have both side of the arguement. But I can't agree with your opinion about Euthanasia.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother has been in bad for 3 years now, she could eat, could manange to move to sit up but she couldn't move out of the bed or talk. Sometimes when we went to see her, we could figure out she was trying to say "It hurts a lot, let me die." but no one would ever want her to die, especially my grandfather. It's easy to think that finishing a pain for someone you love is the right thing. But it is not easy to give up on someone you love like that. Just some months ago my grandfather died and my grandmother could recognize his absent. We knew our best that she wanted to go with him. But for us, it's not right. She's still there, she's still living, still try to talk. We can't kill her like killing an animal.
Just some years ago I used to think that Euthanasia is totally right, it's human's right to decide their own death. But it's like the issue about "suicide". It's just as wrong as suicide, helping someone suicide is murder.
Hi there Katie, I have to say this was one topic which I found rather interesting, since I've been keeping up with the whole debate ever since the story of a woman whom killed her mother and claimed that she did, to end her suffering.
ReplyDeleteAlthough in the end that did not work out, but I have yet to decide which side I am on, I mean one could say that a human can decide on their own life. But what about some one whom is in a coma, or some one whom is delirious or has mental issues. It seems to depend on the situation I suppose.
For now I think the best answer to this would be no, since I d rather be responsible for saving a life then ending one, is my thinking process.
Thanks for your opinion, Hang Nguyen and Farish.
ReplyDeleteHang Nguyen, I think the cases I introduced are a little bit different to your grandmother’s case. She is not living in the meaningless life, because she can manage to pain. Therefore, she doesn’t need Euthanasia.
In the case of Mr. Sean Davison, as a formal GP and psychiatrist, Patricia knew about her conditions well… it was hopeless… Patricia asked to Sean to help for ending of her life. First time He rejected it.. so she tried to go on a 35 day hunger strike.. but she survived.. the worst condition.. every morning when she opened her eyes, she was upset that she was still alive….it was so terrible.. so his mind was changed by watching mother’s suffering… He gave her a lethal overdose of morphine… He thought that was only thing he could do for mother. According to the article, his mum’s last saying was “thank you, son.” In my opinion, everybody is afraid of the death and even the elders want to live longer. Think about it. They begged over and over to help for ending their life. why?
As Farish mentioned, it depends on the situations. I do not think that euthanasia is totally right, because it is possible to be used for wrong purposes… negative result.. Thus, it is requried that the euthanasia is legalised thoroughly.
Hi, Katie
ReplyDeleteI think this topic is the issue most people debate. I support the legalisation of euthanasia and I think the euthanasia should be decided by the patient who is suffering. So I think euthanasia should be legalised.
Finally I have my side~ thnks... minsung~~
